Sam's Chowder House

Hubby, son and I went for a bike ride this afternoon.  After we finished our bike ride we ate dinner at Sam's Chowder House.  This is the first time we have eaten there.  Even at 7:00 it was very busy. The wait for an inside table was half an hour.  They had outside tables so we ate outside since it was a nice day.  It was really nice but towards the end of our meal it got a little cool out.  So we had clam chowder to start that we shared.  It was really good even the boy liked it.  I had a BBQ Braised Pork Shoulder on a bed of Italian swiss chard and polenta chips which is a rectangle of polenta that is fried.  The pork was tender and tasty.  There was a lot of swiss chard.  Nothing beats a slow cooked pork shoulder.  Hubby got the Lobster sandwich which was good that came with potato chips and coleslaw.  The boy got grilled Salmon fillet on a bed of corn and spinach. He liked his salmon. I tried the Salmon and the Lobster sandwich and they were both good. The restaurant is a little expensive but it is really good and they give  good size portions.  A perfect ending to a gorgeous day.  We will definitely go back  but we will make reservations the next time.

Heirloom Tomato, Basil and Mozzarella Pizza

Hubby and I were shopping at Lunardi's and saw they had heirloom tomatoes so we bought some.  We have been wanting to try them.  I didn't know what I was going to do with them.  I was watching TV and a commercial game on for Round Tables heirloom tomato flat bread that looked really good.  I decided to make heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella and basil pizza for dinner tonight.  I made the pizza dough in the bread machine.  I cut up tomatoes, basil and mozzarella.  I also cut up some shallots and caramelized them.  After the pizza dough was done, I divided the dough into two. I stretched the dough out then I brushed it with olive oil, then layered with mozzarella, tomatoes, added salt and pepper, basil, caramelized onions and some more mozzarella on top.  The second one I added pepperoni because hubby wanted pepperoni on one.  I baked the pizzas for 20 minutes.  They were so good.  The tomatoes were sweet, the basil and mozzarella complimented each other and the caramelized onions just topped it off.  I will definitely make this pizza again when the heirloom tomatoes are in season.
